If you have any problems with OptinPop or OptinPop Advanced this help guide should do the trick…
Here are 7 easy tests you can run to see what might be causing OptinPop not to work for you.
The first thing you should do is to make sure you have uploaded the entire “optinpop” folder to your WordPress plugins folder. This folder contains critical files that must be present otherwise popup windows will not appear on your blog.
Test 1. Make sure the folder where you have optinpop.php installed is called “optinpop”.
If you downloaded or installed OptinPop from wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ then you’ll can try renaming the OptinPop folder to “optinpop” (all in lowercase).
If your folder has the name “optinpop” and the popup window is not showing on your blog move onto the next step.
Test 2. Make sure you’re using version 3.0 or higher of WordPress. If you’re using an older version be sure to upgrade it to the newest version.
Optin Pop is compatible from WordPress version 3.0 and above. If you’re not using the newest version you really should upgrade.
If you’re using the newest version of WordPress and the popup window still does not show go to the next step…
Test 3. Make sure you have the url to a website entered into the field for “URL of the page to show” if you don’t enter a URL in this box OptinPop will not work.
Don’t show a blog page within your popup window. If you do this and you have OptinPop to always show to a visitor your popup window will get stuck in an infinite loop. One popup widow will appear inside of another, inside of another and so on.
If no popup windows are showing on your blog go onto this next test…
Test 4. Test OptinPop so that the popup windows appear every time on entry.
These are the settings for this…
This test is to make sure your popup is working.
Your popup window should then load every time you visit your blog.
If no popup windows are showing on your blog go onto this next test…
Test 5. Check to make sure all the plugin files are in the correct locations on your web server?
Here are folders that you’ll need…
If you installed OptinPop correctly these files will automatically be in this location. There’s nothing else you need to do.
Installation is as simple as uploading the “optinpop” folder, then activating it within WordPress. It’s as straight forward as that.
I’ve included the list of files names below so you can see where they are and what they’re called just in case any are missing.
If any files are missing from the “fancybox” folder as shown above just delete the entire “optinpop” folder and .
Sometimes a fresh clean installation of OptinPop will solve your problem.
If everything is installed as listed above go to the next step.
Test 6. Turn off other plugins one by one.
The next thing to do is to turn on each plugin one at a time then go and test your blog to see if your popup window appears.
This is purely a process of elimination to find out which plugin is causing a conflict with OptinPop (which can sometimes happen).
When you do this make sure you have OptinPop set up to the parameters of test #4. This way you’ll have the popup window appearing each time you visit your blog.
Here’s a shortcut to this process…
The plugins with the fewest features usually have the most bugs in them so turn them off first. They’re usually created very quickly resulting in a plugin that’s not perfect but works (just about).
Turn off plugins that are version 1.0 or lower. Those plugins are usually still being developed and likely have bugs that have not been worked out yet.
Leave the plugins you’ve purchased until last, they’re usually the best and most stable of all your plugins.
Test 7. Finally, if none of the above work try switching your theme to the WordPress default theme, then test your popup window.
Not all themes are compatible with OptinPop (but most are!).
If your theme makes extensive use DHTML it’s quite likely that this will cause your popup window not to show correctly. DHTML is often used in elaborate menu systems and is also used by OptinPop to make your popup windows unblockable.
. They’re created to very high web standards and are compatible with OptinPop and OptinPop Advanced.
You could also try installing OptinPop 2.1 (the previous version) if nothing else is working for you. .
